Hurling Skills

To get us all moving, our school worked alongside Ahane GAA club to improve our hurling skills. Thanks to our teachers and the GAA club they got a hurling coach on board to commit to come in every Thursday to work with our school. It was decided that junior infants through to second class would have the first block of lessons and after Easter third through to sixth would get a chance to develop their skills. Each class got a 40 minute session with the coach where they learnt how to hold the hurley properly as well as rising, striking and soloing  the ball.

School Athletics

Trials were held in Ahane Natioanl School for the Limerick Primary Schools Cross Country Finals. Children from the age 7 and up competed in the trials. The first six from each race qualified to represent the school on the race day.

Training was held in the school to improve every athlete who was running on the day. everyone got better with all the training they did. Training was coached by Mrs. Kennedy and Mrs. Ryan.

Our Active Schools Committee

This year we are looking to become an Active school for the first time. As we begin this journey we have created a committee to help with the organising of events through out the year. There was very tough competition from the children as they each wrote why they felt that they should be part of the committee for the active flag. After reading each of  the children's fantastic pieces of writing Ms. McGrath final chose an boy and girl from each class from 2nd to 6th class.
